Born in Montevideo, Uruguay, in 1960, he began his musical journey at just nine years old, charming audiences on Uruguayan television with his enchanting Tango performances. Cambón’s journey in music has spanned continents, leading him from from the heart of South America to the diverse cultural scenes of Europe and Africa, and finally to a successful career in the United States starting in 1986.
As a seasoned percussionist, singer, composer, producer, and bandleader Cambón has made a significant impact on the music world. His connection with the Latin Percussion Co. (LP) highlights his skill and commitment to his art, allowing him opportunities to perform and record with notable figures like Jesús “Chucho” Valdés of Irakere, Eddie Palmieri, Carlos Santana, and José Luis “Changuito” Quintana, as well as with stars of Salsa Romántica like Jerry Rivera and Eddie Santiago. His collaborative efforts extend to working with Keith Terry and “Crosspulse,” Omar Sosa, the Narell brothers, and the Grammy-winning Pacific Mambo Orchestra, among others.
Cambón’s role as an educator reflects his dedication, as he shares his expertise in Afro-Cuban percussion and vocals through workshops at universities across the Americas and Europe. His commitment to music as a tool for rehabilitation was evident during his five-year tenure teaching at Folsom State Prison, demonstrating his belief in the transformative power of music.
