Born in Colombia and raised in Puerto Rico, Carlos Ramírez is a singer, composer and bass player, who brings a musical explosion that fuses the essence of 70’s salsa with the innate talent of a sonero. With the innovative arrangements by Israel Tanenbaum, the famous Puerto Rican pianist and producer, this fusion creates a unique sound experience in Carlos’ recent albums.
From his current residence in California, Ramírez has left his mark on the music scene, standing out in genres such as salsa, jazz and Latin American folklore. His first single, “Dedo de Guante”, captured the attention of the public and the media in San Francisco, Colombia, Ecuador and Venezuela. It also enjoyed good circulation, both in digital platforms such as online radios.
The second single, “Soy Como Papa”, is an emotionally charged tribute to his father and all the fathers in the world, celebrating the valuable teachings inherited from generation to generation. The next single, “Corazón”, is a Valentine’s musical gift.
Ramírez’s new album (to be released in August 2024) features the collaboration of prominent musicians from New York, Puerto Rico and Colombia, such as cuatrista Quique Domenech; the trumpeters Julius Meléndez and Juan Carlos Montiel; Wilson Viveros and Tito Degracia on percussion; and bassists John Benitez and Julio Valdes, among others.
Carlos Ramírez’s proposal is distinguished by the warmth and color of his voice, the depth of his lyrics and his skill in improvisation, qualities that consolidate him as an outstanding sonero. His musical training began in Puerto Rico, where he immersed himself in salsa and rock, learning from the great masters of bolero and ballads. Influenced by his father, a lyrical tenor, Carlos began his musical journey at a young age, exploring various instruments and genres.
From his beginnings in children’s programs in Puerto Rico to his renowned career in San Francisco, Ramírez has expanded his repertoire and skills, collaborating with figures such as Tito Nieves, Eddie Santiago, Hector Tricoche, Willie Gonzalez, Pupi Santiago, and Orestes Vilató. His music not only seeks to delight the most demanding dancers, but also to touch the heart of the Latin American community with themes that inspire both movement and emotion.
